You would like to...
never work night shifts again?
only work three times a week?
have a break of several days/weeks/months after each assignment?
decide individually for each assignment how you would like to organise it?
Working as an honorary doctor offers you these possibilities, among others.

The German Medical Association understands the term honorary doctor to mean specialists who work in medical institutions on a temporary freelance basis on a fee basis. Honorary physicians must be specialists because many questions of labour and liability law can arise for physicians with a licence to practise alone or in further training. Possible places of employment for honorary physicians are all medical institutions where physicians can or must work. In addition to the hospital sector, demand is increasing in rehabilitation clinics and medical care centres (there as a substitute doctor). Old-style practice representatives also ultimately fulfil the characteristics of a fee-based doctor. The work of a fee-based doctor is limited in time, as it bridges temporary bottlenecks in medical care. The fee for this freelance service is freely agreed and thus differs from the salary of an employee or the wage of a worker.
As a substitute doctor, you often earn significantly more for the same work than in the same position in a permanent position. The hourly wage as a substitute doctor is usually between 50 and 100 euros per hour, but can also be more than 100 euros per hour.
Many fee-for-service doctors describe the feeling of having regained control over their lives and careers, as they can pursue their vocation or dream job in a healthier and less stressful way. In addition, there is more freedom and self-determination as well as a better work-life balance.
