Many EU citizens who want to work in Germany or apply for professional recognition (e.g., doctors) need a European Certificate of Conduct. But what exactly is Certificate Type 0, and how do you apply if you're living abroad?

👉 Certificate Type 0

A police clearance certificate that is sent directly to a German authority – e.g., for medical licensing or job recognition.


👉 European Certificate of Conduct

Includes additional criminal record information from your EU home country.

➡️ Can only be requested together with a standard certificate type (e.g., Type 0).

🌍 How to Apply from Abroad – Step by Step:

  1. Send a written application to:Bundesamt für Justiz53094 Bonn, Germany

  2. Include the following documents:

    • A signed request letter with personal details and purpose (e.g., “for medical license application”)

    • A certified copy of your passport (including signature)→ Certification can be done by a German embassy or a notary

    • Proof of payment of the €13 fee

    • Mention if you need Certificate Type 0 + European Certificate of Conduct

  3. Payment details:

    • IBAN: DE72 3800 0000 0000 0130 00

    • BIC: MARKDEF1370

    • Reference: “FZ + Last name, First name + Date of birth”
